If you do not have a Social Security Number, you can obtain a TEACH Access Number (TAN) to use in place of a Social Security Number for the New York State Teacher Certification process.
This number is intended solely for identification purposes related to your TEACH Online account and credentials within the TEACH Online System.
To request a TEACH Access Number, please contact us by or emailing TEACHHELP@nysed.gov with the subject line "TEACH ACCESS NUMBER". In the message, you must include a PDF attachment of your government-issued passport.
If you are provided with a Social Security Number in the future, please submit aÌýSocial Security Number Change Request in your TEACH Online account, or contact our office so we can assist you with updating your account information.
