Provisional Renewal
Provisional certificates for educators in the Administration and Pupil Personnel Service (e.g., school counselor, school psychologist, school social worker) are valid for five years. Beginning August 2, 2023, these educators who hold an expired or expiring Provisional certificate and have not met the requirements for the Permanent certificate may apply for up to two renewals of their Provisional certificate if they meet the following eligibility requirements. Each Provisional Renewal is valid for five years from the effective date of the renewal.ÌýThe application fee for the Provisional Renewal is $100.
When to Apply:
Applications will NOT be accepted more than six months before the expiration of the Provisional certificate.

Please note that educators in the Administration and Pupil Personnel Service who:
- Have already obtained a Provisional Renewal and the former Time Extension are not eligible for a Second Provisional Renewal,
- Were issued a Time Extension may receive only one Provisional Renewal, or
- Hold a Provisional Renewal that was issued on or after May 20, 2020, and prior to August 2, 2023, and did not receive a Time Extension, may receive a Second Provisional Renewal under the First Provisional Renewal requirements.
- Those who hold a COVID-19 Emergency certificate are not eligible for a Renewal. This certificate is not eligible for extended time.
